Pearl Smith
PEARL SMITH was born in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas, where she started dancing at the age of five. She began with her aunt's studio and moved at the age of fourteen to the Ballet Academy of Texas. Here her repertoire included the Sanguinic movement from Balanchine's The FourTemperaments, the title role in Thom Clower's Cinderella, and the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker.
At eighteen she was accepted into the Sarasota Ballet's trainee program, where she spent one year and performed in Sir Kenneth MacMillan's Elite Syncopations. She was then promoted into the studio company where she spent the next two years. During these years she performed in a multitude of productions including Balanchine's The Four Temperaments, Divertimento NO. 15, Western Symphony, and Who Cares?, Maria Konrad's When Icicles Hang, and Risa Kaplowitz's The Nutcracker.
Following her time in Sarasota she moved to Delaware to join the First State Ballet Theatre. Here she has performed in many productions including Viktor Plotnikov's Romeo and Juliet and Celestials, the company's production of The Nutcracker, and Zachery Kapeluck's A Midsummer Night's Dream. This is Pearl's second season with First State Ballet Theatre.
